Watch this amazing video from the streets of São Paulo and you’ll understand why Brazil is ready to erupt

This amazing video, shot two days ago on the streets of São Paulo by journalist and friend of Furthr Dom Phillips, captures why Brazil is ready to erupt.

Even as it prepares to host the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics, the economy has been grappling with slowing growth. That’s why locals have taken to the streets to protest inadequate infrastructure and rising costs to host the World Cup.

In the video you’ll see some protest signs that read: “F&$k the World Cup.” Here’s five charts that explain why Brazilians hate new stadiums.

1. Brazil’s inflation reached 6.5% in 12 months by May.

2. Labour costs (in dollars) have increased 300% since 2002.

3. Credit-fueled consumption growth has hit a wall in Brazil.

4. GDP growth is slowing. Brazil’s economy grew a mere 0.9% in 2012.

5. The current account is deteriorating as real exports of goods and services declined sharply in Q1 against a big jump in imports.
