Britons are more worried about poverty than unemployment, says new study

The latest Economist/Ipsos MORI poll shows that British voters’ anxiety about the economy and unemployment is at its lowest in years, as growth and jobs have returned. Poverty is now a bigger worry than unemployment. Many of those new jobs are low-paid; 95% of the positions created in 2012-14 paid less than the (voluntary) “living wage”, which during this period rose from £7.45 ($11.81) to £7.85 per hour.

In the past 45 years, there have been more than 16,000 terror attacks in Western Europe, an average of more than 350 per year, according to the Global Terrorism Database, maintained by the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism.

The peak was reached in 1979, when 1,019 attacks were perpetrated in Europe, but all through the 1970s, 1980s, and mid-1990s attacks occurred with an average frequency of about 10 per week. Since 1997, the trend line has been even lower.

This year, however, stands out in terms of casualties. Both the number of dead and wounded is above the average of the past 45 years, though still below the levels of the 1970s and 1980s. The deadliest year was 1988, when terrorist in the region claimed 440 victims, mainly in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, an attack for which Libya’s then-leader Muammar Gaddafi acknowledged responsibility. The highest number of wounded, 1,853, came in 2004, with the attacks in Madrid.

Furthe embed 2

A word from Furthr Director Andy Pemberton:

“I started Furthr because, like you, I believe passionately that personal growth leads to business growth. But, when it comes to the constantly evolving world of digital, it’s hard to grow fast enough.

The fact is, the expanding opportunity of digital is absorbing expertise faster than education systems can produce it.

A chasm is opening in advertising and marketing between organizations that can effectively exploit new developments such as programmatic media and those that can’t.

So we’ve crafted a simple set of intensive training courses delivered by experts, to help you and your your staff stay up to speed with the latest developments in programmatic, SEO, social, email, display and data.

These straight-forward courses are built to help ALL your staff – whether they work in marketing or legal or accounting – understand the profound changes in the digital landscape affecting business right now.

We also offer our Skills Audit, a 360 degree survey of your staff’s digital skills. Our Skills Report outlines for whom courses would be most appropriate.

Interested? I’d be delighted to send you a booklet outlining our skills audit and digital courses. Just drop me a line at Andy@furthr.co.uk

Thanks for listening.”
