Amazon posted its best profits yet, with $857m on $30.4 billion in revenue, marking five consecutive quarters in the black. Earnings from Amazon Web Services, its cloud-computing unit, grew by 58%.

In other news Samsung Electronics posted its best quarterly operating profit in more than two years, up 18% to 8.14 trillion won ($7.2 billion).
